I've come across a camper that fits in an early cj5 I know they only were available in 69 & 70 when the cj5 had a tailgate. I own a 73 cj5 with 304 3speed on 31" off road tires, other than modifing the roll bar and cutting a tailgate what other problems may I run into trying to hook this up, or is it even possible, also will the larger tires be an issue??

Tub is the same design, so it should fit.

Tire size might be an issue though. Dunno if you can fit 31s on the camper so they're the same size as what you have? Seems that the smaller tires might put the camper at an odd angle, maybe. Don't really know. Never seen one in person myself. Speculating.

    Welcome from KS!

Someone on this board found one of those for sale once, and posted some photos of it. But did I save them? Noooooo. Here's the only one I have.

I talked to a guy who owns one a couple of years ago - he said it actually makes the CJ5 more stable to drive.

You could probably lower the bogey axle (isn't that what it's called?) to compensate for your larger tires - no need to fit 31s on the bogey.

The tailgate frame and tailgate is available aftermarket. The tailgate was standard in 1973, and the solid back panel was an added cost option. No problem with fitting the tub or adding a tailgate. You'll have to find a location for your spare though.

You should buy it if it's in good condition - if it doesn't work out, you can flip it to someone here.

I knew they were made, but I have never seen one other than a sales brochure picture.

    I wonder how many they made? 6 - 7??
