Bought a Pertronix for the Jeep last July. In October it died and got a replacement from Summit with no problem. Last week it died again. I didn't replace the coil, could a bad coil be the cause of 2 going bad in less than 1000 miles?

Somebody smarter than I am will have to guess about your problem, but the one I have had for 4+ years in my V6 has never given me a problem. Still running the original coil (AFAIK). I don't know about the Hurricane 4, but they said that the V6 units needed to be run through a ballast resistor FWIW. Good luck with your problem.

Just wanted to jump in here "FNG".
I have a new pertonix unit installed with a 40,000 volt coil from the same company, also. I am using 8 MM spiral core accel wires and have gapped my new plugs to 40. I have my timing set at 8 degres TDC and presently have a little hesitation at the light. I had more when I had the plugs gapped at 45. I have heard some gap the plugs up to 60?
I hope to get more power out of the set up, I have only begun to play with this set up. I have fixed the wandering timing by securing the points plate where it was moving up and down. This was causing the timing to flucuate from 6 to over 10 at idle. Now I hope to get the hesitation solved. I now have better response it seems by gapping the plugs at 40 for now. I hope to learn more from this great site and encourage anyone to respond with any tips and suggestions for the set up I am using. I do not have the ballastor connected and think the information listed in the previous message interesting. I would like the reason for using a ballastor on this set up addressed if possible. I ask the experineced ones because I am just feeling my way along in the dark with this one.
    Thanks,
