I'm preparing for a week of work on my CJ-6 and want to fix the mistakes of the PO.

He installed a power steering system, but the pulleys don't lineup so you can have the alternator connected or the power steering, but not both

1st Question: Should I stick with this power steering pump, or get a different one (caution, pics are large)

2nd question: The steering column is not stock and I could live with it, but does anyone have a better solution that I could probably get cheap?

Thanks! Next topic will probably be the brakes :(

Postal Jeeps... or any 70's Jeeps tend to be very rare around these parts. I was wondering if there was any advantage to swapping out my non-original column for a different non-original column.

For example, I've read on this board about swapping in a cadillac tilt-column.

by being located in Canada, the brokerage fees I'd have to pay to those companies would make it cost prohibitive. Guess I'll just stay with what I have for the column then.

Can you take out (or add) the spacers behind the PS pump and make the pulleys line up and change the location forward or rearward. You will need to add a pulley with two or three grooves to run the PS and alt. each on one groove. My set up has a two groove pulley on the crank, one for the PS and one for the alt.

I can add spacers to make it line up with the second pulley that's already on the crank. I was just looking to see if there was a more "proper" way to do it.
    thanks!

You could do something like this. This bracket is from a mid 80s buick. I cut the top off which was the bracket for the AC (if IIRC).

    Looks good!

btw, is that your brake MC in the corner of the pic? If so, have you done a write-up of that mod or have a link to one?

Yes, that is the brake master. It is a mid 70s Jeep unit for drum brakes. I have swinging pedals.

A bottom pulley with three pulleys should line it up, on the upside it looks like you're prepared if you lose a lugnut or two.

Columns - Caddy, Pontiac, almost any GM column will work. The main thing to look for is a 28 or 30" length. I like Pontiac Tilts that were in manual cars...

I also use Ididit and Flaming River Columns.
