    Hi all

As usual when I start a project, I'll try to keep a small record of what I've been doing.

This project started when I got interested by a trail ride that the local jeep club is having monthly. I did not ride a lot in trails, but enough to discover that I like it a lot. Trails in the wood are my favorite, and they have a spot with 8 or 9 trails, and they go there once a month.

So I got to the club meeting and I ask the guy what do I need on my jeep to go with you ?? basically the answer was ``you need a tow strap and some sort of hooks or shackle at the front and back, so we can take you out if something happens``

So that meant new bumpers with receivers front and back. I have a stock front bumper, and it was bent and rewelded at some time, so this was worthless to bolt hooks. As for the rear, let's say that it was a 1/8 inch channel, badly welded to the frame.

So I will build a new sets of bumpers. Last night I removed the front bumper (it almost unscrewed without tools, the bolts were loose) and I cut/slammed/etc. the rear bumper out of the way. Tonight is the preparation of the new bumpers, and Thursday will be welding night.

Before you ask, I'll take pics tonight and I'll post it tomorrow

    thanks for listening

    Re: Bumper making (with pics)

    Hi all

As promised, here are a couple of pictures of the bumper making.
First is the bumpers after they were ``machined`` All the cutting was done with a metal cutting miter saw, and the rest of it with a hand-held grinder. The second picture show the cap we welded at the end of each bumper, and the last picture show the front bumper in place.

Next is welding the plates that we will use to bolt the bumpers on, and painting all of this black !

    Enjoy !

    Hi

1st, MCSCOTT, thanks for the comments, I appreciate

And Sparky, yes, I notched the tube to put the receiver, this way, there is 8 bead of welding all around the receiver, and I made the notch thight enought that there is not a lot of freeplay. Look at the picture, it show the interior part of the bumper, the hole will be for the other part that goes there, don't know the word in english for this..

As we say here :``Trop fort casse pas``, that can translate as``too strong does not break``

I have mine about half finished as of tonight. Will be mounted with winch by tommorrow noon. I used 4" thick wall channel and 1/2 " plate steel for mine. The frame will rip in half before this thing does.

    Hi all

Done deal !!! Only thing remaining is the paint to dry. We begun at 10 this morning, and we were done at 5:30 tonight. All went well, only thing to finish is the piece that goes inside the receiver.

Here are some pics. First is front bumper all done, second is me painting, third is some weld dimple I putted on the rear bumper, will be less slipery when I climb there to get stuff, and fourth shoes how it bolts to the frame (there is a 1/2 inch plate welded on the frame, we bolted into that)

Again, thanks to my dad, all was done and everything fits. I invited him to come to the trail with me one time, to thank him, needless to say he was happy about this offer...
