I was working on the Jeep today, doing some powersteering pump mount re-configuring and I needed to pop out the distributor to do that and it won't come out, not only won't it come out I destroyed a GM HEI distributor body. It seems like the bottom fit is now an interferance fit, it won't budge. At this point I am going to have to try to pull the whole front of the engine apart to get it out, if I can. Has anyone pulled the timing cover off with the distributor in?

    Help!
I guess no-one ever pulled the timing cover with the distributor in, I don't think it will work, but I have no other choices, I think damage will happen.

You tried a ball joint fork to pop it out? Lots of lube soak overnight.

Joe, you shouldn't have any problems getting the timing cover off with the distributor in place long as you can reach all the bolts, to the best of my recollection since I just put mine back on Sunday, you should be able to.

Just be gentle removing it from the front of the engine as it'll still be engaged to the drive gear.
