Is there any way to pull the oil pump out of the motor with the motor still in the vehicle? Maybe by jacking up the motor higher or what?
I just need to check the gear to make sure it is on the shaft and ok.

I haven't tried it so don't know, but don't forget it needs to go back just right because of the timing. That's one reason I suggested pulling the valve cover first. Just a bit simpler. :) A bit simpler for diagnosis anyway.

I jacked mine up about 2.5 inches and it fell out..Also loosen the transmission mount boltsit might raise up and it will not put a strain on the tranny..Remove the floorboard also to give you enough room...

I removed mine without any issues. I did remove the fender for more room to work. I do not understand the clearance issue.

    :iagree:

Unbolt it and tap gently with a mallet and it should drop right out. Always use a new paper gasket when replacing the pump.

Oh, if you decide to install a new pump you will have to submerge it in a can of oil and work the gears back and forth to fill the pump cavity with oil or it will never prime. If you don't prime the oil pump this way, it will never build any oil pressure! ;)

I've had mine out, you don't need to remove anything. Just remember you have to time the oil pump when it is replaced as that is what drives the distributor, the slot should be at the 7 o'clock position when the pump is replaced. Any good manual will detail the procedure. Best of luck
