I'm going to do some seam sealing prior to painting. I'm tempted to use a standard high elastomeric caulk from the local home depot.

Anyone have any suggestions on seam sealing.

I'm doing this to a cj6 body tub that is in extraordinary shape for a 40 year old jeep.

IMHO, go to a body shop supply house and get the proper seam sealer. Paint won't adhere to most house-type caulks and the body sealer stuff is INDESTRUCTABLE. You can paint right over it and fugettaboutit for say, 20 years or more.

Doesn't Eastwood sell some good seam sealer? And what about squirting some Ospho in the seams before sealing them to kill any rust, I've heard that's a good thing too? That's kinda the plan I've been leaning towards.

Ditto on the above. Also, if you don't plan to take it apart, use a paintable urethane seam sealer. Awesome stuff.

I got some seam sealer from a auto body supply. (Westco auto body supply.) I paid $6.00 for a full culk tube. The seam seal needs to be put on over the primer. Then paint.

I asked about this stuff earlier, I originally heard about it here on this Forum. http://www.ospho.com/ It's supposed to be a water-thin rust killer that you use before priming. I'm wanting to know if it's a good idea to squirt this into all the seams, nooks and crannies of my tub after it's been sandblasted, and just before I prime it. Has anybody used this stuff???? It sounds good.

    Ron,

Prime first -- then use the seam sealer. You want your primer to creep into all the cracks and joints for maximum corrosion protection. Then you can seal the seams before color coats. Good luck.

This Ospho stuff I'm asking about isn't a seam sealer, it's more of a liquid "rust killer", or "rust converter". It's water-thin, and you'd brush/squirt/spray it into the seams, cracks and joints before the primer, then spray the primer, then do the seam sealer.

I heard about it from somebody here, I'm just asking if anyone has actually done it this way and what were the results?

If anyone is interested, I used to work on oilfield supply ships. We used Ospho on everything. It's been around for a long time and used extensively in the marine world.
