    Hi all

Since I have a jeep with a homemade tub made without consideration of the original curve of the door (made probably by PO), I am doomed to have a jeep that wont fit any existing top or door.

I always liked the look of half door on jeeps. For this project, I did not want to disturb my dad for his metal-working skills. I work in a furniture factory, and the other day, I looked at some plywood in the rack and I had the solution. I will use some baltic birch plywood, 1/2 inch thick. I wanted some light doors, that will be easily made, and more importantly, cost not a lot of money. So I took some measurement, made some sketch and here is the plan.

First, I made a cardboard template of my openings. Then, I transfered it to the plywood, making sure that I had more material, to trim later. Then I cutted one door, marked it or a 1/4 inch gap, and trimmed it to perfection.

I plan to cover the plywood with some sort of artificial black leather (can't recall the proper term in english...)

Here are some pics of this first step. What do you think ???

I like them just fine and there's nothing wrong with the plywood. Heck don't bother covering them...just paint them black. Easy to replace if necessary. You might could just roll on some hurculiner or something to make them more weather proof.

But when I was thinking about doing it, I had more of a YJ design where the top of the door is flat and then turns up to the top of the opening right @ the hinge.

Well talk about not costing a lot of money. A friend of mine here at work who I talk often about the jeep said that he had at home some false leather material, just like I need. So on the lunch break, he went home and came back with a roll of said material.

I wont work on the doors tonight, I have a friend who come over for some muddy trail time (I'll ask my wife to take pictures..) and also, there is a hockey game on television, maybe the Carolina Hurricanes are going to win the Stanley Cup tonight, so I want to watch that game. (I would prefer they don't win the Cup, but we'll see)

I'll post other pics as soon as I can

I made the same type of doors and i covered them with an old barbeque cover. It's waterproof and has a little padding. To hold the doors shut i used a small sliding door latch vertically into a hole in the body works good .
