I installed my new seats my jeep but Ive noticed theres not much room between my beer gut and the wheel. Im worried after one night at pizza hut I might not be able to fit back in R). So I was thinking about doing the boyink fender wells . Just wonder how far to cut back and if there are ant other tricks to gain a little leg room. I have the seats far back and down as I can gettem right now.

I went with a 1 3/4" notch - based it on how the tire stuffed into the wheelwell. It was plenty for me...

hold your breath and have someone wrap you in saran wrap. Or you could get the smaller steering wheel. Folks say it takes more effort, but at least I had room then to put out the extra effort in.;)

So, where does one find a smaller wheel for an early column? I'm putting a '71 column in my '56.

kinda out of luck if you want to retain stock look....unless you're pretty handy with fiberglass and or expoxy resin. Then weld a aftermarket steering wheel ring on an old steering wheel spokes wrap with cloth and resin or expoxy and try to duplicate the factory steering wheel contours. One word, those damn finger notches underneath are very hard to duplicate. I ended up sanding smooth and put a cover over it.

Grant steering wheel or any of the other after market brands will work with the proper adaptor. That's what I did for my wagon and will be doing for the Jeep.

Yep, me too. I used the "Classic" Grant Wheel and actually I liked it better than the big round wheel. More comfortable on the hand, and quicker tighter response, and more beer gut room for sure. Looks pretty cool too IMO.

Not new style Billet Aluminum...just chrome spokes.

Course with the Ross steering, it would be difficult with lockers. I didn't have them so it didn't matter. My Ross set up was fine.

Diet? Yeah, I could stand to lose a few dozen lbs. If I ever get out of this Marriage From Hell, the LAST thing I'm going to be worried about is "action from the ladies". I've had enough BS from females to last the rest of my life. Friends? Sure. Relationships? Not. I'll be the hermit with the old Jeeps and the Beagles, thank you very much.

I went a full 2" on the notch and had no trouble. You'll be surprised how much more room is there after ;)

You didn't have stock '56 seats in Speedy, did you? I'm using stock seats, so if I do "the notch" I'll have to modify the doorway mount of the seat frame so I can move the seat back.
