With my transmission leaking into the bell housing and dripping through the drain hole, I've been driving on borrowed time for a while. I've been carrying a large drip pan (litter box) in the back to place under it when parked but feel guilty about what's coming out underway...especially on the beach.

So for the holiday weekend I "crafted" a solution. A 12"x24" piece of carpet suspended under the drip. It has a wire looped arround the front of the oil pan's skid plate to the front corners, and 2 wires from the back corners to holes in the frame. After 3-4 days of driving it just started to soak through and is ready to be replaced.:)

Before anyone asks, yes I have been topping the oil as I go.

I thought the Jeep signature was that they mark their territory everywhere they go. How does your Jeep feel about you keeping it from doing this.:(

    That's absolutely classic!R)

You could improve on it a bit by suspended a bigger piece at all four corners of the jeep!:)

I garbage-picked a bunch of cut-offs from a house that got new carpet, some berber and some more generic. I figured the berber was too fancy.

thought a lot about the size. Didn't want it too close to the exhaust pipe or driveshafts.

Maybe carpet should be standard equipment on the top of all skid plates.R)

How hot does your oil soaked carpet get.... could it be a potential fire hazard?
