ok got the thing installed, tried to start first time no werky, so i changed my plug wires 1 space counterclockwise, got it to sputter, was able to get it runnin but not really long enough to time it and it is a hard crank??? it turns then seems to get a load, then turns then gets a load? easy then hard easy then hard? makin any sense?what should I try next? move the plugs 1 more counteclockwise? ive got 12 volts to the coil the last time it started seemed to backfire a little out of the drivers side exhaust? cant keep it idleing im sure i need to adjust my carb now but what do you guys think??????

explain to me Btdc as far as relation to the timing marks, on my 225, it goes something like o twards the drivers bottom side then 4 going twards the top of the engine then i think 6 or 8? ar those btdc, or do i need to go below the 0 mark? right now it seems as far as i can tell the timing mark is way above the 6/8 timing mark????? whatta ya think?

    Yes. :)

    BTDT.

Re: vacuum advance, plug it. Don't run it until you get an adjustable unit IMO. Got mine here: http://www.speedwaymotors.com/

    Timing marks should read 0, 5, 10, 15 BTDC.

Read Rich Mott's article on installing the HEI on a 225, IMO, link is in the V6 Tech Section Links. Setting up a "degree wheel" is pretty easy to do. When you read it you'll see that moving plug wires on an OF needs to be two terminals, not just one.

wait. on the oddfire you ave to line up on the correct prong underneither (wish i knew the terminology..pickup maybe?) in the bottom there are the 2 prong that tell it when to fire. if itll start but backfire or not fire on 1 side, you need to turn your dist like 30* to line up with the correct pin. when i instaled mine, i was on the wrong pins and only 1 side ran. really stank of exhaust. we have a link to a good page floating around here. its critical to have those set or you will miss a whole bank.
also, if you dont have atleast a 12 gage wire feeding it, the wire cant handle the current from the HEI.
other than that, set it around 6*-8* and it should run great.
