H.E.I and plug wires

I have a quick question, for just the sake of getting the H.E.I up and running I would like to swap out the old distributor and put in the H.E.I, can I swap them out and use my old wires until I go buy some new 8.8's? these wires i have on it now i belive are7.5 or so, Im not going to be running it around i just would like to get it up and running? I will re-gap the plugs, what are most of you using gap wise on the H.E.I? .45 to .50?

gapped mine at .40 cause my gauge only goes that wide. but will go to .45 when i get around to getting a decent gauge. i've heard people going all the way to .60 but that seems too wide to me.

as adam said, if you're going from points now, you'll need to go to 8mm or higher. drop by the salvage yard and see if they will let you pull a set of plug wires for free to hold you over. i'd send you my old hei wires but they're gone now.

 

ok yea i have points now, was just looking to get the thing running then next week grab me a set of wires......... was hoping the ones that im currently using with my points would work just to get the jeep timed etc with the hei.
