This is my first post and first question:p I have a 1970 Jeepster commando. I have a 2 inch body lift and new leaf springs with a 3 inch lift (the leaf springs where custom made with more of a "bend" to them), and 32x11.5 inch tires. The tires practicly touch the wheel wells and has rubbed a few times. The rear leaf spring practily lies flat for some reason. Is there any way to get more lift out of the rear with out putting the leaf springs on top of the axel? My shocks are for a stock jeepester to, if I got shocks meant for a jeep with a lift would that raise the rear at all? The modifications done to the jeep should be enough to clear the tires I dont understand why it is not.

Welcome to the board! Jeepsters Heads are certainly a welcome to the forum! We would love to see some pics as soon as you can.

As for your question, I don't know the answer, but from what I have read, suspension lifts are a common challenge with Jeepster owners and are the main reason many people stay away from Jeepsters. I am sure more knowledgeable guys/gals will jump in.

Again, welcome and fill out your profile so we can see where you are located!

Is it actually not lifted in the rear compard to the front? Possibly your rememdy will be trimmng the rear fenders. Visually it may look like it isnt lifted in the rear because the fender opening is smaller. also did you get new leaves or did you reache the old ones? If you reached them they may have already sagged. Buying new is the way to go, it will last longer.

Hoe bad is the rub? There is a lip on the inside of the finder that could trimmed off without changing the look. Some pictures might help if you have a chance to throw some up here.

Those are TJ flares on that orange C101? That would be a good solution - back in the day, most Jeepsters had the fiberglass cutouts because the wheel openings are so small. To get more lift, you could look through the junkyard for springs the same wisth as yours, then take some leaves. You still have the single rear leaf?

I might suggest that the shackles are the culprit
the spacing between the bolts seems much, much more than the factory shackles; moving the spring mounting higher up/closer to the frame might help
once you figure this out, if you keep those shackles, I would trim off the excess length for better appearance
    that's my opinion

Nice Commando! In Spruce Tip Green--reminds me of my old 64 CJ-6. Perhaps you could use some add a leafs along with trimming the fenders. Those long shackles should go.

The shackles look simular to the stock shaclkes on my Jeepster (only yours are newer). I'm guessing that thats just the way they were. The reason that the leaf springs are so flat is that there is a lot of weight on that Jeepster. I can't give you an exact weight, but that top has to be close to 400-500 lbs. When I took mine off the rear end popped up quite a bit.

The other the other thing, any tire over 31", without a major suspension lift is too big for a Jeepster (at least from everything that I have read).

    Nice Jeepster by the way.
