Towing

    I am looking at a 72 commando with the 304 auto to possibly purchase. I need it to flat tow my 1967 cj. Anyone know if it will do that?

    Yes. ....aaannnddd NO!

    If the commando is stock height and in good mechanical condition it would work at slow speeds on flat terrain. I towed a 3B and 1/4 ton trailer 300 miles with my 70. It was scary at best.

    If you have some fab skills you can make a tow bar that puts some of the weight from the towed vehicle on the tow rig using parts from a weight distributing hitch. Even with that you're pushing things as the commando will only weigh a few hundred pounds more than the CJ. Braking and steering will not be all that great.
