OK, sometimes I am an idiot.. I have been into Jeeps fpor a few years now, and have been wantin to install a 4-speed. I thought I had my bases covered. I found a Jeep T-18 with the granny low, from a Jeep truck.. I had a tranny guy here rebuild it, and he was to install a shorter input shaft out of a Ford T18 .. Supposedly this was all I needed to do to have a tranny that will fit.. I also bought a T150 bell housing.. Now I am having trouble because the input shaft is not quite right.. The synchro is too sloppy.. I tried an input shaft kit from Novak hoping it would have the input shaft I needed, but it is the same as the one I now have. So I am looking for any help I can get. Do I have any options? Will the original input shaft onthe T18 work with my current bellhousing? Am I screwed?

partsmikeparts.com has what you need. And no, you can not use the truck input shaft. its too long.

Also the t-18 has either a think or thick front bearing. The person who rebuilt the tranny may have put the wrong bearing in.

one is a bit thicker then the other. And you realy dont know until you take it apart which one you will need.

I had the same issue, only I found out AFTER I installed and drove it. I originally had the narrow front bearing installed when I should have had the wider bearing. The wider bearing would not fit with the oil slinger so I removed it. My symptom was the transmission would not stay in 4th gear. Nickmil explains it well in this thread.

Since your input shaft came from Novak it might work with the oil slinger and wider bearing. If you lack the width of the oil slinger to getting the bearing retainer clip installed, then run without the slinger as I did. However, I would try it with the slinger first.

I have pictures available of the slop in the syncro if you want to compare it to what you are seeing on yours.

Thanx for all the help..IF I had known this was going to be such a hassle i woulda found a Ford T18.. I assumed that a Jeep tranny would be the hot ticket.. Thanx again.
