Need some carb advice...I think

About a week a ago the CJ started stalling out at an idle - after it had warmed up. I did some parts changin' - fuel filter and ignition coil - also thought I might need to rebuild the carb. Yesterday I pulled original Rochester 2G carb, cleaned in good and installed a rebuild kit.

When I out it back on the jeep it cranks up well, but will run only when choked. When I take the choke off, it immediately shuts down.

I was very careful to follow the rebuild instructions and make all the correct settings (so I think :? ).

Anyone have an idea what my problem might be?

Idle speed adjustment? If you keep your foot on the gas and take the choke off does it shut down or stay running?

I can keep her runnin', but I have to keep the RPMs really high.

There's an idle speed and an idle mixture. Sounds like the idle mixture is too lean to run on the idle circuit - thus you must keep the revs up.

I adjusted the mixture and it seems to be very rich but it's runnin' at something that approximates normal. Think I'll take a test drive and see where she abandons me :) .

This little V6 drinks more gas than the V8 in my pickup  .
