I am planning to pick up my first Jeepster (Halfcab) soon and although it is not running and needs lots of rear body work, I am excited. It is a ’67 with a 225 V6 with a three-speed. The engine is rough shape from what the PO has said so not sure if I will be able to rebuild (at least sooner than later). I have a chance to get a running inline six-258. What are your thoughts on putting in this engine? Will an inline six even fit where the 225 is now and will I need to do a radiator upgrade or many more modifications to consider with a different engine? What are your thoughts? I will post pictures of the Jeepster in the Introduction Forum when I actually get it. Thanks for your help!

The inline will be a tight squeeze in there. You probably would ahve to either hack the heck out of the firewall or run the radiator in the back somewhere. if you got your hadns on a later commando frame that had the inline 6 or V8 it would be a bolt in. Unfortunately it will be much harder to put it in your jeep. I would see how clean you can get the 225 before you make the decision, quite possibly it could clean up and be a runner. Even though i saw the pics, it may be possible. So before spending much more money see if it can be made to run first, that is the cheapest way.

I would stick with a buick v6. I found a 231/225 built engine for fairly cheap. Look for a early 231 or another 225. They rock!!!! They have good torque values with the heavy flywheel.

Dan is correct - inline 6s are just too long for pre-72 CJ and Jeepster engine compartment, unless you want to move the firewall back.

The Buick V6 will be easiest to fit in the engine compartment, whether it's the one you have or a junkyard engien from a RWD Buick car. The Buick 300/340/350 V8s fit nicely too if you move the radiator forward, but are too much engine for the stock 3-speed IMO.
