My uncle's got a jeepster he wants to be rid of. I was thinking about getting it and using the sm465 I've got in it. Anyone got one in thier commando? Just wondering what transfercase's your using if not the d20. I don't even know what came stock behind the 465:rofl:

Looking at Sean's commando the other day didn't help any:D

Oh, one other thing. I know the springs are kinda unique to the commando's. Anyone convert over to wrangler springs? Got a pair of those sitting around too. Figured it'd be easier to get a lift using those.

Do it. I was going to use either a SM465 or NP435 for the commando. you have alot of wheelbase to workwith so it will not be an issue of driveshaft or anything. They have the kit for it to mate with a dana 20. You will need the differnt bullgear to mate the 20 up since the auto tranny version is differnt unless the commando has a t14. The 465 will be easy to bolt up to the engine, you may just need a plate. Defiantely do it!!! :) you will love the jeepster, it is a total family truckster.. which you are in the market for :)

As for wrangler springs you will have to get new mounts. I decided when i go back to a commando maybe one of these years i will go get custom leaves to bolt in. The jeepsters springs are longer and make for a comfortable ride :)

I have a Commando that had a 4.3, SM465 and Dana 300 with adapter. Previously it had a 231 with a SM465 and Rockwell transfer case from a 60's Chevy truck, somewhat rare I've heard. I know in the '70's the NP 205 came behind the SM465, but the outputs are quite high. I'm going with 4.3, SM465 and a rockwell. The rockwell's have low outputs.

I'll have to check Novaks site I guess to find out what they want for the various adapters. Guess I'm looking for a cheep way to put the 465 in. $500 or whatever for the D18 in the cj is alot...

Thanks Dan. I knew new spring mounts would be needed. Didn't think about the length being a better ride. Might cost the same thing anyways to get springs made by the time I get all the hangers and parts for the wrangler springs.

Just have to justify it to myself. Decided that I want to sell the 68 since I'm tired of working on 2 jeeps all the time. Don't really want another project, but for $200 its hard to pass up;) Think I'll see what kinda shape the body is in first.

    Oh just get it ;)

That is a good deal. Yeah the $$$ for the adapter to the Tcase is up there , but in the end it is a much better setup. And you will absolutely love the ride on a jeepster. It is really comfy. Mine felt like a cadillac :)
