It sounds like the bearings are starting to go out in the tranny so I have put a tran/transfer case rebuild on my list of things to do. So I started surfing for master rebuild kits and i can't seem to find one listed for a t86. So will the kits for a t90 interchange as far as the bearings and gaskets and seals? With what I have read the only major diference is in the way first and reverse gears are cut.

although the front and rear bearing might be the same, some of the roller needle bearings inside the trans are not.
Best thing to do would be to order for the T86 trans.
Sounds like you will need front and rear bearing, and the small parts kit. This kit should include all the needle rollers, thrust washers, lock plates, needle spacers etc for the trans. A gasket set would be a good idea as well.
I would think Herm or some of the usual vendors would have all this.

    I would call Herm (http://www.hermtheoverdriveguy.com/id6.htm)

He doesn't list a T86 rebuild kit on his site, but does sell them (I bought one from him ~1 year ago, it was $100 plus shipping). To my knowledge, he is the only vendor that you can source a "complete" kit from.

Forgot to add: I would pull the transmission floor cover and shift tower and take a look at the internals of your T86 BEFORE ordering anything. If you have any bad gears, etc. it will save you time, frustration, and maybe shipping costs. Not sure how well you know your JEEP, but it is possible someone has already swapped T90 internals into a T86 case. I swapped T90 guts into mine, which might confuse a future owner if I ever sold my JEEP (I would tell them of course).
