This is similar to some other recent threads on road stance.

I have been bolting stuff back on the CJ for about two weeks (spare tire and jerry can carrier, gear box etc.) just getting it back to where it was before tear down.

With all the weight of equipment, spare and about 80 ponds of fuel in the rear, I now have the road stance of the family station wagon headed to the beach for two weeks.

I'm thinkin' about installing a pair of air ride shocks to compensate for the rear ride height. Anyone ever try that?

Air shocks would work because you could level it out with it loaded and air down if you ever want to take all that stuff out. Personally though, if the stuff is pretty much going to stay there all the time, I would try to look at stiffening up the rear springs. Maybe an add-a-leaf or something.

Coil-overs might work ok on the rear.

Shoot, I didn't even think about that and one of my CJ's has them on it. Kinda adds a helper spring to it.
