73 Cj5 Power Steering Problems

Need help with troubleshooting power steering problem. Extremely hard to turn steering wheel even after installing new power steering pump. Not sure if the previous owner had a aftermarket pump to turn the 14.5 tires. Ive bleed the pump, bleed the lines, visually inspected tie rods, etc... to find nothing wrong. I have'nt done anything with the power steering box and not exactely sure how to assess it for problems without dropping it and dismanteling it.

 

Are you sure the pump is good??

 

That has been one of things I have considered. I first went with a rebuilt, refeb. pump from pep boys. Installed it and the same thing happened, extremely hard steering. So I thought lets return it for another and see if it solves the problem. To no avail it did the same thing. No Im wondering if the old pump that was in it was an aftermarket pump. As I am not sure since I bought my jeep used and never messed with pump before. Ive considered purchasing an AGR pump but would hate to do it if the problem was something else.

 

when i did my convesrion the first pump i got was bad and it acted just like a manual system, even when cranked up. tosee if the pump is actually pumping i disconnected the lines and let the pump shoot fluid into a bucket. the bad unit barely drizzled fluid, the good one nearly shot the bucket out of my hand...
