    Question for the fabricators here:

I'm still working on re-vamping an old Kayline swing-out tire carrier to fit my old '2A. It was originally designed to fit a late CJ, so I cut off the frame mounts and moved them inboard a bit to fit the narrower frame.
The thing is, the whole production rides on two welds, holding the base onto the rear crossmember with two piddly little pieces of angle iron. (factory design!)

I'm only looking to hang a 31x9.50 Swamper on it, and maybe my Hilift jack. I'm concerned about all that riding on the welds on two 2-1/2" pieces of angle iron. If I mounted the jack down low, where there are square tube stubs for accessory mounts, it wouldn't put much leverage onto the brackets compared to the tire & wheel, but it would still weigh on the mount. An option would be to mount the jack up on top of the front bumper, but that would involve more fabricating, and I'm concerned about "junking up" the front of the flattie.

    Opinions guys?

I have my Hi-Lift mounted on a tow bar that I keep on the front of my flattie, unless I'm running in a parade. I welded 3 long wheel studs to the tow bar, lined up with 2 holes in the rail, and 1 in the anvil of the jack. I use wing nuts with neoprene washers, and a cable lock. It works fine with the bar up or in use. I guess I'm more interested in utility than how the Jeep looks - it's a little rough anyway.

On the CJ6A, we have a WWII Dodge pioneer rack fitted to a 70's jamboree rack on the rear. The Hi-Lift fits right on neatly, along with the spare, 2 jerry cans, the axe, shovel and pick. The setup would be a bit much for a shorter Jeep.

I didn't mind the look of the jack on the front of Dutch:

You can also just use a long bolt and attach the jack to the spare tire when you need it:

    not really
    buy the HiLift mounting brackets
they bolt on top of the front bumper
I store the handle behind/under the rear seat
didn't want it stolen, coming loose or falling off
