73 CJ5 Steering wheel

My 73 does not have power steering but does have the monsterous large steering wheel. I know that the bigger diameter wheel allows more leveraged input.....but at 6'0 I have a hard time getting in and out of the seat! Has anyone installed a smaller steering wheel with the manual steering? suggestions?

 

Maybe you'd want to keep the bus wheel and move the seat back? Plenty of tall drivers have done the wheelhouse notch to enable moving the seat back more. http://www.boyink.com/supersizedutch_comments/27_0_9_0_C/

 

I did alot of situps, quit drinking Mountain Dew, and cut other junk carbs out of my diet. The wheel in my 75 is now further from my gut...

 

I was gonna say...I'm 6'1", about 198 to 200 lbs & have no problem getting into or out of my 74 equiped with the bus wheel. I also walk 2 miles or more almost every day (5 out of 7, anyway) watch what I eat & as of today, quit drinking beer (or anything else alcoholic, for that matter). I'm bummed...I love beer!

When I had the 70 CJ for sale (no P/S) it had a very small wheel on it & was a REAL BEAR to steer. When I replaced the old bus wheel (cracked) with a new aftermarket, what a difference. Was almost a joy to drive.

My advice, get some excercise, eat just a little better & stay with the big wheel.
