The 70 CJ5 that I just got has 2 bolts with nylon thread nuts holding the tailgate closed. I've looked at the where to buy online stores but can't seem to find the original style chains. Where can I get some or the parts to put some together myself? TIA

Duke, aren't they supposed to be longer than that?

I think Beachwood Canvas also has the chains and covers, bring money.

IMHO the chain links themselves are hardware-store purchases. The hooks are unusual to the Jeep. I use threaded links to attach them to the Jeep - easier to remove if desired.

They should be longer than as pictured - enough to let the tailgate sit level when down.

I like those with covers over the chains to reduce the noise - will see what the local Ace HW store has similar to the hooks. Thanks.

I'd recommend taking up Duke on his offer of hooks...they have an unusual curve to them that seems to both help latching and keep them from falling out.
