Ran across this one the other day on the side of the road for sale in Boise. Bad 4-Cylinder motor in need of a crank, rusty body for 1500 Bucks. I offered the guy 300 cash but he turned it down, I guess he thinks "Sentimental Value" translates to real world. Anyway heres the #'s

    SN # 8305-188245
    Paint # 999
    Trim # 201
    Special sales order # GS-4420

GS is for Government service... Right?

Re: Where's My VIN? (New VIN Project, Please Help Out)

Well, I guess mine would actually be 1965 model year built in Aug-Sept of 1964. It has a smooth cowl with no battery access and the tray seems to be internal to the frame rail up front by headlight on pass side. I figure the external mount for the drivers side rear view mirror must have been something a guy before me put on from an earlier year class as haven't seen that mount on any other pics. Still seems to be some debate about Willys or Kaiser but from what I read the Kaiser Jeep name was given to them all after 1963 to get the brand under one name until the AMC purchase in 1970.....

I do appreciate all the help guys..thanks

It's a silly "debate" IMO. Kaiser bought Willys Overland out long before your Jeep was made. ;)

Guys get bent outa shape about having Willys on the VIN tag, doesn't mean much, it was still owned by Kaiser whether it said Willys or Kaiser Jeep Corp. No CJ-5s were made that were not Kaisers. Maybe not in name, but in ownership.

    Just my take on it.

according to the list I have of Tux numbers, yours is about 20 below another member's (Kaiser63) who's is listed as a 63.

which should mean your vin would be something like 8322 10470

    Oh and thanks for postin

woah, this thing just gets older everyday.

it also has a chrome strip on the lower exterior rocker panel that i haven't seen on any other pictures of tuxedo parks--it does appear to be original. the only decent pic i have is ain jy avatar but as you can see it is a hard copy. i'll look up kaiser63 and see if i can find any pics of his.

    thanks

Re: Where's My VIN? (New VIN Project, Please Help Out)

well the emblems definitely say mark IV so i think i'm back to believing that it may have been a frame swap. the strange thing to me is that the frames for these old jeeps are interchangeable but the frame numbers seem to be duplicated- depending on model--like cj-5 and cj-5a have some numbers that seem to be exactly the same. example--a 1955 cj5 frame may have the same number as a cj5a from 1965. that seems odd to me. i don't know why this concerns me---i don't plan on ever selling it anyway. i plan on registering as a handbuild or salvage i think. in that it may actually be a rare bird and be worth a great deal---it might be worthwhile to restore it--the right way. thoughts?

Paint code 999 is a special paint and they say serial number needs to be provided to look up the color at the factory. Renegades had paint code 999 and also I think some of the models for government use had paint code 999. I don't see a trim code 334, but I do see a trim code 343 which is 2/3-1/3 (split bench) charcoal vinyl.

The only 334 trim I see is for a charcoal bench seat on the commando. That's from the 1970 trim codes. I don't have the 1971 trim codes, maybe there's something in the '71 codes. I'm not sure if the '71 codes are different from the '70 codes or not.

I think with a sequential serial number of 27744 that it's a '67 model built in Feb. 1967. 225 is paint code of Spruce Tip Green Metallic. 340 is trim code charcoal vinyl buckets (at least in 1970).

    Welcome!
