Threaded shackles ?????

I have new main leafs for my 2A. I want to use my U shaped, threaded shackles to keep that original look. My old broken main leaves appear to have the thread cut into the eye of the spring. The new ones do not. Do these main leafs need to be threaded, or does this cut into the spring over time and give the appearance of factory threads in the eye of the spring???

 

Sounds like you got aftermarket springs. Where did you get them?

 

I don't know who made them. I got them with a pick up load of early parts from a guy in Pa. Back in the '70's I bought 4 new main leaves right from the Jeep dealer, someone who had been a Willys dealer for years and still had things like 2A parts in stock. I don't remember those springs being threaded. But I could be wrong. I may have switched that Jeep to the factor rubber / steel bushings though at that time. I can't remember. I did later use the later bushings in those same main leaves. I do remember pressing the bushing into the frame mount inside of the thread.

 

I don't know if they are all like this but the threaded c shackles I've seen have the c threaded and a sleeve that fits in the mount and threads onto the c. I've seen where the the threaded c would wear through the bushing and "pound" the threads into the mount and give it the appearance of having been threaded. Again, I'm not sure all are like this so take this with a grain of salt. I would think if the mounts are ok that a new set of c shackles should go right into the springs if the spring diameter is correct for the sleeve. Nickmil.
