I have had problems with my flywheel. The ring continues to pop off. I punched it back on and it fell off once again. Brought it to a shop and the flywheel and ring were said to be good. I then purchased another ring to put on and see if it would work. Same problem, is it possible to weld the ring to the flywheel with 3-4 small welds to keep it in place. thanks everyone for your input.

I would try staking it in 6 to 8 places with a center punch. If that didn't work I would weld it like you asked.

Something doesn't sem right here. I've never seen a ring gear staked or welded. Does the ring gear have a front and back side. Maybe a taper, so it only goes on one way? How come you didn't have the shop put it on? If they didn't try to put it on, how could thay tell it was OK? A ring gear needs to fit RFT so it won't spin on the flywheel. I was under the impresion that you have to heat a ring gear to get it on a flywheel. If I were you I'd definitely do some checking before trying to stake that gear on.

sounds like the ring or the fly wheel are worn.

The fit should be extremely tight. Something definitely ain't right. Umm, wouldn't welding mess with the balance?

I had the shop heat it up and punch it on. It was directional and stayed on for a bit. When i got the new ring it fit very snug and did not move, however it started to fall off soon after that. I am going to put a new flywheel on.
