Well, tick is still there. New lifters and pushrods. Aside from the really annoying tick, it runs great! So, maybe the fella was right after all.

Is a there a good way to confirm a manifold leak?

Is it better to knock rusty bolts loose when they are hot, or wait until they are cold? Did I say "knock"? I meant break them off. Arrrggh! Ain't lookin' forward to this part. I got things to do..... Like drive it. Or move on to the other issues.

If your careful, you can move your hand around the suspected area, and sometimes feel the exhaust coming out on your hand.

WARNING.... you can burn your hand like this if'n you get too close.

you can also clean around the manifold and then look for dark black or sooty discoloration where the exhaust is leaking.

The Jeep mechanics would take a quick trip up the freeway before removing the exhaust manifolds. The hotter the better, at least that was their objective.

Stethoscope for the leak; a piece of hose works, but careful what you direct toward your ear.

Some may frown on this, but a little ATF through the carb will show you an exhaust leak right away...

If it leaks, it must be on the bottom side. I can't see or feel or hear anything on the convenient side of trouble.

Well, I bought it for good reason. One of which was a diversion from work stress............ You'll be hearing from me. Eventually. Prolly about how to remove a broken stud.

So, work was a stress issue, eh? Heh-Heh!
