I bought a 49' CJ3A about a year ago and would be interested in finding out where the vehicle was originally sold to. ie State/Town ect. also if there were any special options or anything, also what the original color was and any and all other vehicle unique facts about my vehicle. the vin # is 11009 which indicates an early 49' with a model 41 rear axle. I bought this jeep in Utah. Just curious what kind of life this jeep has had.
If anybody can give me some starting points to find out this vehicle's history would be appreciated.:v6:

I got lucky as I started w/ the first owner and he knew who he bought it from and so on until I got the original owners son.
Each time I got a name I Googled it just in case.

One place to check for the original color is up under the dash (underside of the cowl). This area is rarely repainted. I found my Jeep's original color there. There is a lot of good info here for VIN's, colors, etc:

Some of the options were a rear seat, heater/defroster, front & rear pto (power take-off), front winch, propeller shaft guards and locks for the hood & gas cap just to name a few.

I never have seen one either but I have read an invoice that states they offered them under optional equipment and accessories. Never seen a 3a floor mate either.

    Lock-type gas cap $1.98
    Hood lock $8.00
    Floor mats $3.00
Of course that was back on 1-29-51

Chuck, not that I didn't believe you !
    but this is very curious....
I see nothing indicative of one on the Jeep in the link you provided.
I see no out of the ordinary attachments as well.
The ones I have seen come up through the metal shrouding on the inner grille, and attach to the center seam or rib of the underside of the hood.
other than the stock hood catches/latches, I see nothing out of the ordinary: w/shield blocks, strap, etc...
don't find any listing in any of my parts books as well...
    hmm, more research needed
if you find something, please let me know
    thanks for sharing

    Didn’t take it that way.

Your correct there is no patented hood lock for jeeps but Arthur Knorr wanted a hood lock so the dealer subcontracted the work to a body guy who fabricated a padlock and strap arrangement.

The pics shown look like they were taken after Joseph Caprio bought the jeep in 99 maybe he removed the lock. Sorry for the confusion.
