Where is number stamped on frame ?

    I've a 1978 CJ-5.
    Where on frame (chassis to us in UK !) is the serial number stamped ?
    I've had a look and cann't see one anywhere other than the VIN plate on the body tub.

    on the top arch of the frame. above the rear axle on the passenger side..

    mine matches the serial number on the title.

    On my '56 it's stamped on the top of the right frame rail above the rear axle, and above the rear mount of the front right spring, I believe. However, it's stamped very lightly, and nearly impossible to see, and that's not from rust erosion. I had to wire brush the areas and then lightly sand them in order to find the numbers, they're fairly large but not very deep. They're hard to read with the frame bare naked and staring right at them with a bright light. Match my VIN and title though!
