    Howdy All,

I have a good one... I was driving down the road yesterday and started to hear a ticking and the engine started to miss. I removed the valve cover and the bolts on that hold the rocker arms assembly on #6 have backed all the way out. I retorked them down to 20lbs and motor was still missing on #6. I did a compression test and 6 was only at 25lbs. I back off the 2 bolts a little bit and compression jumped up to 150. Both push rods are all good, and the samer as the other 10 and the bridged piviot as well as the rocker arms look great and all are the same as the others. I am thinking 2 lifters bad? I tried to shim the rocker piviots up with washers, but by the time the valves close like they should, the lash is to great. What the hell is going on? This is a new 258 with about 200 miles on it. Thanks for any and all help

Well I pulled the head and the back two lifters look like they will not bleed down. This is a sad site to behold.

Before blaming the lifters, I'd check that you have the right length pushrods - there are a few different lengths. Also, if the head is planed down a lot you may need to shim up the rocker studs. Lifters are cheap, if that's your problem, though I've never heard of new lifters pumping up too much.

The push rods are all the correct length (9.6) and true. The lifter plunger is extended all the way to the lock ring and will not collapse. I pulled the head and will swap out the lifters this morning, I am lucky they are .904, the same size as Mopar lifters (I have boxes of them). I pretty sure the head is true, but I am still having the machine shop check it out for grins and giggles. I had this happen years ago after twisting a 340 to about 8 grand, but this motor has not seen the sunny side of 4k. The only problem today is pulling the lifters out that mile deep crevice of a block :)

Well Ill be.... someone snuck a odd ball lifter in the mix. If you notice the push rod cups you will see. Sorry the pic is not that great. The one on the right will not let the push rod sit down in the lifter and also the plunger inside the lifter would not move at all. Guess someone at the lifter factory was having a bad day. Thanks for all the help.
