The 1972 CJ5 I purchased about a month ago had a roll in bedliner in it, and seemed solid, but as I was stripping it off I have noticed some rusted out spots in the tub.

Looks like she will now be parted out.

If anyone is interested in anything, let me know.

How bad is the rust, anything can be fixed with a little time.

Is it that bad you or someone else can't save it?

I think it is very possible that it could be saved, but right now I dont have the resources or money to get into that kind of a job. The rust is mainly around the passenger side tool box (especially where the back post for the passenger seat bracket comes down), drivers side floorboard right by the hump, and other areas by the seams. The first two areas I mentioned have rusted through in tiny to moderate holes, and the other is on the verge of rusting through. Metal is flaking off like old paint in the two bad areas surrounding the holes. Im sure that someone with a little experience in replacing or repairing these types of things would think that was a piece of cake to fix, but its not something I have experience with or have the money to work with, and I dont want to drive it if I feel that the seats are bolted onto a piece of metal that doesnt have any substance. I hate to give it up considering it has a 304 in it, but I think its something I have to do before I put any more money into it.

Maybe it would be worth it to try to sell as is to someone wanting a project? Im not sure, any input would be great.

wire brush it, hit it with rustoleum, and don't let anyone sit in the back, problem solved. My first jeep was so bad, it was a CJ7 i took the top off for the first time, and drove down the street, hit a bump, and the whole side came off and was blowing in the wind. I wish I had just had some pin hole rust in it.

If it’s something you definitely wouldn’t repair post some pics and a price and sell it as complete unit. Sounds like a nice jeep by N.E standards.

I have taken pics and have loaded them onto my computer, and I even signed up on a host site that I will be able to put my pics on, but I cant figure out how to shrink my pictures (byte size) enough to allow them to be uploaded onto the site. Any suggestions on how to do this?

I guess i could e mail the pics to anyone interested if I cant figure out how to post them, but then again I might run into the size problem again since most e mail accounts dont allow over a certain file size.

Here is a link to the pics:

    http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrowse.asp?folder_id=1649202

The engine is a 304, it is not the original engine, not sure when it was replaced. It originally had a v6 in it. I recently primered the jeep with the black you see, and also began scraping off an old cheap roll in bedliner that was flaking off (reason you see flakes on the floorboards). The rust is pictured in pics 12 and 14. Also, the passenger side toolbox is rusted through underneath. It has the original seat brackets (not pictured), windshield wipers work, headlights work, does not have brake lights or reverse lights right now. The housing for the reverse lights is there, but the wirese are cut on it so im not sure if they would ever work. Engine seems to run very well, fairly smooth idle. I just replaced the spark plugs and wires and put on a new air filter. Exhaust is in bad shape, leaking around the manifold and very loud, also sagging pipes. The tires have about 25% of the tread left. Body is in overall good shape besides passenger fender and hood, both pictured. Didnt get a chance to check the 4wd too much, but I did switch it over and it seemed to kick in. I believe the alternator is bad which is why the battery is not charging, but once I jump it off it runs well. I also have both chrome headlight bezels even though one isnt pictured, and both fog light covers as well.

I am asking $900 and the purchaser picks it up. If you want, you can e mail me with questions or ask on here and I would be happy to answer. My e mail is PCWest13@hotmail.com.

(sorry about the pics being so small, I had to reduce them to make them fit on my host site.)
