    Howdy all,

The jeep rebuild is almost to the end, but I have a small problem...... I replaced the temp sending unit and replaced the wire from the tsu to the new speed-o-meter. The temp gauge looks like its working normal but will not stop near the 1/2 point but creeps up to hot. It does not peg it, but it comes awful close. I know the motor is not over heating so it must be a bad reading. What can I do to recalibrate this gauge? Thanks for all your help and pics will be here soon as I wash it up this Saterday

    Thanks Ron S

PS Tim, I know you have an answer for my problem :)

Hi Ron - I don't think there's any way to recalibrate as such. All electric analog gauges work the same - see galvanometer http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/HBASE/magnetic/galvan.html In my experience, they either work or they don't.

The tsu is another story - it's a temperature variable resistor (thermistor) and has a spec. In my '77 manual, it says 130 degrees is 73 ohms, 171=36, 242=13, and 270=9. You can test the guage by substituting fixed resistors in place of the tsu, or measure the tsu and compare it with a thermometer in the radiator, or dunk it in hot water and measure it. If it were not accurate, I would just replace it.

    hth!

Tim...x's 2 on the "YOU ARE THE MAN" statement. I know your avatar says "Jeepin Nerd" and I have seen some detailed posts, but equating Ohms to exact temperature (and I am assuming it's Farenheit) is too much...You go dude:beer:

What would it cost to get you to move down the street from me?R)
