I just finished up my "doors" for my 5. Constructed out of 1x1 tube steel. Took about 10 hours total, over about 2 weeks;)

They open, and close!!! The best part is that they don't vibrate and can be removed by undoing 3 nyla-nuts.

I know all of you are goofy about pics, so here ya go!

Looks cool Drew! Some protection, an armrest, while retaining the open-air feel :D

I think I recognize the sweet pea flattie, and is that John's old blue A1 with the hood up? (I can't recall the guy's name that owns the A1 now)

That would be Billy that own's the A1. He just swapped in a D30 front end in the A1. The black wrangler behind sweet pea is Mark's new jeep.

I will be doing the hanging pedal conversion next week, as well as disk brakes (hopefully).

The next fabrication project will be a overhead console and light bar. I should get that done next week as well. Hopefully, if I have time, I will also wrap the rear corners with diamond plate.

New plug wires and points are going in this weekend. I've noticed a big improvement with the new rings already!! No smoke and more power!!

I was planning on doing power steering, but I think that hydrolic is the way that I want to go. We are doing the engineering and seeing what parts are needed now and if it's even going to work or not. It would be a full hydrolic system (similar to a loader or tractor), but have the option of re-using the origional ross system if needed by re-installing only 1 arm.

Soo many plans, soo little time, soo little money. I feel like walking thru a junkyard.

By the way, these doors are my first actual fabrication project, other than scabbing on a plate here and there. Hence the reason why I grounded most of the welds;). But, after I got into it, it became alot easier and better looking.

    Very nice,

What did you use for the latch? I am thinking of something like this to put some skins on for foul weather.

The latch is shown in the previous 3rd pic. I picked it up at a local hardware store. I believe that it's supposed to be used as a gate latch. Basically, all it is, is a double cylinder with a coil spring inside. If you depress the inside cylinder too far, it will lock and stay collapsed until you hit the "trigger". This is why I welded a stop so that it wouldn't reach to that point. It operated pretty good.

As far as the "striker plate", I just welded a plate with a hole in it at a double angle, so that the door will ride up on it as well as depressing the latch until it reaches the hole and finally engages. Nice tight fit.

I needed a place to put the highjack. I used to put it on my front bumper and it would get bent hitting trees, rocks, and other jeeps;).

That location serves as 2 purposes, this is where my 3rd point of my harness is located, and my spare tire bolts onto it in the middle. Looks like a baha jeep when my spare is on:).

Shouldn't the attachment point for the harness be below your shoulders?
It looks like those will hold you back againt the seat, but not down against the seat in a roll over.

I believe that the 3rd point should be inline with your shoulders. If it's too high, you will raise above the seat, if too low, you will arch your back in a head on.

Where I have it is just slightly above my shoulders. The way that I have the other 2 mounts of the harness definately keeps me sucked down into the seat.

Because of the low back seats, I prefer the 3rd point to be a little higher so that it wont arch my back at sudden stops (tree, rocks, jeeps);).
