I am installing new pads on my 70 renegade. When I go to put the pads on the rear, one is longer (the actual pad itself, not the metal the pad is hooked to) than the other. Is there a reason for this? Does the longer pad go to the front or rear of the vehicle. Thanks so much in advance!

Wait for others to confirm, but IIRC self adjusting=long in rear.

i dont mean to sound like an idiot, but which one is which? The new pads have about 3/4"more pad material than the old ones, so it is really hard to tell. thanks again!

Just that simple. The shoe with the longest amount of material goes in the back if it's a self adjusting set up.

FWIW, only taking one side apart at a time does have it's virtues. ;)
    We've all been there. :D
