I have a t-90 in my willys that at one time was a column shift but is now standard floor shift. There are still the two pieces coming through the case with the interlock balls and spring between them. How do I remove this stuff from the case? On the outside of the case the linkage is gone, it looks like it should just drive into the case but something holding it there? I want to remove it all together and plug the two holes in the case.

    Thanks,

    Randy

it's not hurting anything, so why bother ?
it could be that it will only come out if you disassemble the trans
and that could explain why it's still there
so, if/when the trans has to come out, that would be the time to remove it and plug the holes

I want to remove it because both shafts leak oil out the side of the case, and since they are used for nothing, they might as well go.

As far as removing them, I don't think you have to remove the mainshaft. There is plenty of clearance between the shifter shafts and the mainshaft. I'm just no sure what holds the shifter shafts in the case, I tapped on them a little but they seem solid. I'm sure someone on his board has removed them to service the seals, so I should be able to use the same removal method to get rid of them all together. Anybody?

    Thanks anyway,

    Randy

if I recall, they are held in with roll pins, from the top of the casting from where they protrude; clean off the area real well, you should see the holes; I don't know if they are blind or go all the way thru

I see the area you are referring to, but I don't see how they could hold the shafts in. The shafts have to turn (and do) so they can't be pinned.

    Thanks again,

    Randy

if I recall, the pins are offset in relation to the shafts.
this offset allows the pin to hold the shaft via a groove in the shaft, and still turn

Thanks for the help guys, I got the shafts out, you were right on about the pins being offset. My plan is too measure the hole, and drill and tap to the next size so I can just use a pipe plug.

    Thanks again.

I would agree - the column shift boxes are alot rarer than the top ones. Really worth lookin into for the 'restore' crowd.
