and it starts pouring, so we decide to put the V-6 in the bed and work on it next weekend... as I roll it out I notice the drivers side rear spring hanger is against the frame and the axle is shifted back...

I look and the front spring hanger has ripped away from the frame :( It didnt rust away, it was apparently cracked before as before i moved it and put the motor in the back that finished the job. SO i have some welding to do now...

My question... Is it worth it to keep the stock flatty springs, or should I try to aquire some stock YJ springs and put under it. I am thinking I will keep these as they are on it, free and dont appear to be worn out, as well as I have one to repair instead of 8 hangers to modify/replace...

I thinks it's easier/quicker to repair/reweld the hanger than go thru the hassle of changing them out

X2. Stock flatty springs, if they are in good condition are actually a pretty good setup on an early Jeep. (Despite what all the magazines will have you believe!)

I was worried they may not handle the weight/torque of the 231 I am putting in it. Then i realized its probably not a huge amount of difference. I think i have pretty much decided just to fix it, due to less hassle, But i had heard stock springs were pretty shabby, Just weighing my options I guess

Stock springs will work fine with the V6 - still rough, but fine. Depending on your budget, look at the Holbrooks. They are worth every penny and go on in 1/2 a day.

Weight is not a problem. The Jeep/Buick V6 is considerably lighter then the 134s. Strength is fine too IMO. If you want to change the ride or flex, you might swap springs...

All leaf springs sag eventually - that's nothing specific to the flat fender springs.

Its a jeep, not worried about the ride, my YJ is bouncy too. Flex, well we will see what I end up using it for I guess.

Now that is interesting. Stock springs with spring over axle?

I replaced my stock springs with replacements from Walcks. Ride's ok and it went up at least an inch. I was considering the Rancho springs, I think they are cheaper and more flex with about 2" lift. Kinda wish I went that way.

    Hope this helps,
