Finished sand blasting the engine today...finally. Paint goes on tomorrow, its a two day process, even for the Factory Manifold Gray. Was looking at the v6 in the header picture and it shows the timing chain cover painted. The oil pump housing I got from Alan was painted. I honestly can't ever remember Pete having paint there. There's not even a modicum of paint there now and the block wasn't missing a lick. Only the valve covers and oil pan had lifted paint and rust. My bell housing was bare too. Do you think they shipped it out w/o paint? We did order it. Do others have paint there? If so, has anyone painted over Al w/ POR-15? Any differences from cast or steel? Need Metal Ready?:v6:

I've been wondering if we got short changed to get it out on time. My Grandmother paid in advance, I do remember that. Impressed the crap out of me. I didn't know we were rich.R) R) R) Sadly, I think I paid more for my wife's GEO.:(

My 71 was all original and was not painted. I elected to paint it when I rebuilt it but did not paint the bellhousing or the water pump, I did paint all the miscellaneous parts black though.

Chrome is applied to yellow nickel plating not bare steel.

ah ok. all i know is they are REALLY light and cupperic in color.
    i hope you are correct..=)
would suck to have copper valve covers.
i work at Phelps Dodge, one of the worlds largest producers of copper. we electroplate it strait onto stainless steel plates, i thought it was done to steel the same way <--clueless sometimes..0=)

Chrome plating is usually copper first, then nickel, then chrome. Hence the term "triple chrome plated".

Not necessarilly true, most times the copper is omitted especially on something new. The copper is used to fill surface imperfections and can be built up quite thick, up to about 1/8" the nickel and chrome are very thin compared to the copper when it is used.
