I'm working on a little VIN project and was wondering if anybody has a bare frame that they could snap some pictures of the serial numbers stamped in the frame? Also, if someone could mark exactly where on the frame the stamped numbers are located on this picture http://www.mninter.net/~molsen/jeep/VIN/Frame3.jpg

One should be located on top of the frame rail on the passenger side just below the firewall and over the rear spring hanger and the other on top of the frame above the rear axle (I think, thought I read it was stamped in both places).

I could also use pictures of serial number plates for both the 85748 and 8305 prefixes (or any others for the early CJs).

    Thanks for your help!

I don't have any pics of it, but my frame was stamped in both places like you describe.

    Does this help?

It's located right above the passenger side point"B" in the frame drawing.

Here's one on the front pass. side. I used some white-out for clarity:

    Here's another (8322):

You can see both numbers relative to the rear hangar of the front spring.

Here's a blurry one on the pass. side towards the back:

I'd be happy to snap a few pics of the VIN plates if someone could tell me how to take a good, non-blurry pic of something up close.

Thanks guys, those are great! Will it be ok with you if I put them in a document that will be available on the web (here hopefully)?

    How's 10% sound Alan? Let's see, $0.00 X 0.1 = $0.00. Maybe that can be arranged. If 10% won't work, we could maybe go 20%.......R)

Very hard to do with most small, auto-focus cameras, digital or not. You might try to zoom it out as far as you can and then move in slowly until you have it framed, but might not work either. I used to have a couple of Nikon F3 35mm SLR's, with several Nikkor lenses of different focal lengths, and close-ups are always tough, but especially with auto-focus unless you have a really high-end setup. Plus, the auto-flash will mess things up too.

Happened to have these souvineirs of the Late Unlamented Maggie sitting around right next to the scanner. if they look a little funny it's because I scanned the backs (way cleaner) & reversed the image. Feel free to use these & the earlier frame pic on your site :)

I finally had a chance to work on this a little more last night. Do I have the locations of the frame stampings correct?
