    Hi folks,

Will a set of 1979 even fire 231 heads and even fire Edelbrock Performer Intake fit on my 1968 odd fire 225?
    Any specific parts required?
    Unique gasket combinations?

The heads have been in my garage for years and now I have an opportunity to use them.

Thanks in advance for the help.

i have seen a few inquires about this. there are some water passages that need to be aligned/drilled, but from what i have read, it will. best thing to do would be to just get the offenhauser dual port intake and run the odd fire heads, you'll get more power from that setup.
i will do some research on it and ask some questions.

thing wont let me edit my previous post...
anyway, go to this website http://www.gnttype.org/general/v6hist.html
they have most/all of the changes through the years. mostly for the 231, but i dont think anything changed between the 225 and the 231 odd fires besides bore. as long as you keep the year heads and block strait and respect the changes that came before (shorter push rods, etc.) and match the ports, it should work.
i started checking this page out cause i wanted to use the even fire block/rods with my oddfire heads. would have had an even fire with odd fire torque heads and intake. would have made for a smoother running engine without that 500 lb flywheel. (was my thinking at the time).

Well actually, the 225 heads are nothing to write home about and were significantly changed in 1979 for better flow.

IMO, The 225 torque is mostly in the cam which can be improved on in aftermarket a little. The grunt comes from the inertia of that 500 Lb flywheel. Toss all that in a 2700# Jeep and 150HP goes a looooong ways :D

I have a HD Willy's pickup flywheel/clutch on Putt Puttwhich, again, that inertia thing works. Old 4 Cyl trick.

the better flow was for higher rpm. the skinnier intake runners provide for a faster intake charge at lower rpm, which helps for low rpm torque. but, i could be wrong in my thinking. who knows, maybe i will port the offy intake to match the even fire heads and stick those on.. 0=)
i dont know...15-30% more power in all rpm's from that intake as it sits? might not touch it. i think i will leave it alone and test it with the smaller heads first.
cant wait for this child custody case to be over so i can finish my jeep.
    wish me luck..its coming wednsday.
lol..i have a cj5 and the name of my son who i am trying to get custody of is Cody James (CJ) and he is my 5th son...lol.
sorry for the pun, but this jeep is an early inheritance present, and i will pass it to cody for when he hits high school.
imagine cruisin a 50 year old jeep in school.

i did some research in the PAW last night and found the '79 and newer heads also had bigger valves. i have a set at home, i might break em out and check how much different they are between my '75 block and these '81 heads. might have to port out the runners on the intake a tad to match, but it would make a nice engine i am thinking.
