Anyone ever swap a 302 C4 into a CJ? Seems very straightforward being the short nature of a C4. The jeep in question sits about 2 1/2 -3 " above stockon 33" tires. Any opinions or thoughts would really be appreciated.

    are you speaking of a 302 ford and c-4 automatic into a 72-74 cj5?

i see lots of un-necessary work..... not to mention transfer case issues....

yes, a 72 cj5 is the possible canidate for the swap. Maybe it would help to tell everyone what i have:
    72 cj5, T-14, spicer 20, dana 30 Front, dana 44Rear, 2 1/2 pro comp springs, MORE shackle reversal, 1" oversize shackles in rear, and 35 x 12.5 x 15 baja claws { the measure 33" tall @ 28 psi} .
In my possesion now i have an adapter Plate, bearing retainer and pilot bushing for a ford 302. Will my T-14 hold up? I play in river bottoms and sand mostly. I also have an adapter for a c4 ford automatic to a jeep spicer 20. that is the reason for my previous inquiry.
    What would you guys do?
Any and all comments and critisizm is welcomed.

The most common swap is the chevy 350, is there a reason for wanting to use a 302 Ford? I know every part you need is available for a chevy swap. I seen a fella that ran a 302/4speed/205 60f/60r at a rockcrawl,he put the abuse to that jeep like no other and it held.

I think it's come up on some forum here before. The Ford V8 will fit fine, no problem there. If you search, I recall someone posting that the 302 will fit with no further mods by repacing the left mount with a right mount, or something like that. Pretty sure it was Sparky that wrote that. Send him a PM if he doesn't pick up on this thread.

Re the C4, I don't know. I very vaguely recall that there's some hangup with the overall length. The case is short, but the case and the adapter is long? Something like that. The TH350 is popular becasue of the short combined length and availability. Jeep never put an automatic in a CJ-5 for that reason, although they did offer the TH400 and later the TF999 in the CJ-7. Get out your tape measure...

I believe Pirate has a TOTW devoted to installing Ford 302's into CJ's. Might be worth reading.

Bubba (Scott L ) posted a write up from an old Hot Rod mag that had a Ford V8 in a ecj5 late alst year.
I know we talked about it some.
I'd do the Ford before a Chevy. Thats just me though. I'd sooner take a beating than have a sbc. R)
