sag swap

    will the stock steering box out of a 73 cj work for the sag swap.

    yes they will work, but you might have to relocate the holes through the frame. if the mounts are the pressed steel type then i would use either an old wagoneer mount or make one out of plate steel according to mcruff's plans. i found a cj cast metal one from a 72 but it was only a three hole mount. so i still have to drill one more hole through the frame so the box will have 4 bolts mounting to it. but then mine is power steering.

    The steering box mount (bracket) on a '73 (72-75) is cast iron. The folded steel mounts started in '76. The '73 bracket probably won't fit into your frame horns, plus it's meant to be mounted under the big front crossmember on a later Jeep. If you get the 4-hole bracket along with the box, hang onto it becasue it's scarce and someone will definitely want it.

    The 72-75 manual steering bracket has 3 holes and the bracket for PS has 4.

    now i'm confussed!!! I want a manual box with 3 or 4 bolt mounting which one?

    AFAIK all the manual Saginaw boxes for passenger cars have 3 bolt holes. The manual steering box bracket will have 3 holes to match. Some power boxes have 3, some 4.
