Will an Olds 350 bolt up to a Jeep T 18 without an adapter??? I have seen one that is bolted to an AMC trans, wondering if it would bolt up to my T18 with too much trouble.

    Thanks

I don't think so - the T-18 in a 258 CJ has a unique input shaft and plate adapter, and uses the T-15 bellhousing. The input shaft for the 4.02:1 close ratio transmission only works in that transmission, so you can't swap parts like you can with the Ford or Jeep wide ratio transmissions. I think that there's no T-15 bell with a BOP pattern and the right depth. The J-truck and Wagon used a Buick 350 from 68-70, and that bell would fit, but that bell is really deep to put the shifter back far enough in the FSJ cabin. You may be able to make a plate adapter or have a machine shop make one for you, and then use the Olds bell. JMO though - build the 258 and be proud. :AMC: :)

    Yeah,
The 258 is a good engine. I don't have too many complaints about it. I was just curious about the Olds. There is a guy here in Iowa that has one with a 3 speed and a dana 20. I need to fix the linkage on my dana 20, or maybe twin stick it!!

    Anyone, done that???

On second thought, your transmission was offered as an option the last couple of years with the V6 - that bell would fit the Olds, and you'd probably have to have the plate to go with it, and maybe the input shaft. However, those Jeeps are so scarce that only one owner has ever posted on this forum. The parts by themselves would be purest unobtainium.

Don't know about the twin stick, but the linkage parts are available IIRC.
