I'm going to pull my motor to paint it. The tranny and case are already out because I had them rebuilt. Can I attach the tranny and case to the motor while it's on the stand then drop it all in together? :?

    TIA!

Usually an engine stand attaches to the flywheel end of the engine. I mounted my tranny to the engine and put them both in though. Just don't think you'd want that much weight hanging on the stand if you could do it. Last time i put the tranny in I hung it from the roll bar with a block and tackle. Just be careful about working underneath it if you do that. It worked great. Get some bolts that are the same size as your tranny to bellhousing bolts, but longer. Maybe 2 -3" longer. Cut the heads off and screw them into the bellhousing to act as guides for the tranny. This gets your tranny lined up and in position. I filed some flat spots on the studs i made so i could turn them out to put the mounting bolts in. 2 studs is OK, three is better. You can use the same trick to help you mount the Tcase to the tranny. Different size bolts though. 2 is usually enough. Slide the T case over the studs and they'll hold it in place so you can start the mount bolts. Pick bolt holes that will be easy to get at for the studs, so you can take them out easily.

    Got an engine hoist?
Plus, is the CJ body off? If not, it'd make life easier to install it all in one motion.

    HTH, just did this recently:

The body being off made it that much easier. :) Here's how I did it:
*Lifted/hoisted tranny & x-fer case to sturdy bench
*Hoisted V6 from engine stand, put on same bench
*Installed flywheel & new clutch components
*Join V6-to-tranny/x-fer case while on bench (some weight of the V6 still supported by the engine hoist so it doesn't tip over, lol)
*Re-arrange chains to accommodate the weight diffos.
*Hoist complete unit off bench and into Jeep (as in pic)
**Disclaimer: haven't ever done it this way w/ body installed, but I'd wager that it's doable. But you'd have issues w/ the Jeep's tires getting in the way of the hoist's feet during rearward movement of the hoist.

    HTH!

I pulled mine the same way, but went at it from the front. The hoist slid between the tires w/o any problems. If the body's still on you may have a problem w/ the chain going back to the trans/tc (for leveling) hitting the firewall.:v6:

That's what I was thinking. Body's still on but I may pull the fenders and grill if it will help any. I was going to attach chain just to motor and use a buddy for leveling while backing the trans/tc into place. :D

That will probably work and having the fenders off will make it a lot easier to get to things. Just be sure and have:beer: ready for said buddy at completion. Thats a trusting soul and good friend to be under that much weight while its moving.:v6:

I pull the grill and fenders, use a floor jack (with wheels) to support the Tranny - Tcase from the bottom. I also have a leveling arm on the engine hoist. This allows me remove or install by my self. The jack from the bottom allows it to slide in as I lower the front.

    Works real slick.

Get one of those cheapo load levelers from Harbor Freight, they allow you to adjust the center of gravity to level things out. Work pretty good.

Another thing that will help is remove the center section of your floor pan.
