Sorry if I posted in the wrong forum. It seemed right....but

Looking for a little advice on this distrib I am thinking of getting. It is an IAY 4401. It looks pretty good. My distrib has a bunch of vertical and side play. It is pretty sloppy.

    Anywho...
My question is should I buy this or buy a "new" one. Will a petronix kit work in a new one? How would this sell for?
Here are the pics and description from the seller.

"The shaft is tight. No slop. It turns easily though. Has 1/32 play straight in and out. Nothing otherwise. There is absolutley zero rust inside. The brown spots are grease."

Unless he wants some ridiculous price that one looks good. Should be fine if it's as described.

Obsolete distributors are worth $75 IMO ;)

Whatever reasonable to get rolling again.

When I tore into mine, I found the advance was rusted to the pins and a spring was missing. A good tune up doesn't necc need petronix. Mine runs so nice.

With the new distributor and the solex on the flattie now it starts up real quick and runs nicely. That one does look to be in good shape and unless he wants a arm and a leg for it I'd go with it.

If you get it Kevin, I think I have the Pertronix unit that fits it. If the 2541
fits it I'll make you a great deal!!!!

If all you need is to tighten up the side to side slop in the shaft, that is easily done with bronze bushings from the local hardware store. Had to drill a hole for the oiler, and then gently "run in" the shaft by hand, but had a nice tight fit when done. The bushings are a standard size and can easily be pressed in. A little white lithium grease on the other stuff and I was good to go.
