I'm about to rebuild my 68 CJ5, but can't find out the original color. On the right side of the firewall is a little plate that says: paint 001 trim 292.
Ive searched at http://autocolorlibrary.com, but could not find it.
    Does anybody knows more?

    my VIN is: 8305014-249450

I looked in the parts manual I have and didn't find a paint code 001. If you want to see the pages from the parts manual, see this thread:

Often times you can look up behind the dash and see what it was painted originally. Most people don't bother to paint over areas that aren't readily visible. I'm not sure if the same paint codes were used for domestic vs export markets also.

Someone did a marvelous paintjob on my CJ. Underneath the dash is everthing also painted green. The only part they forgot are the lower parts on the firewall, but this is so rusty you can't see its original color. It looks like grey??
The former owner told me that the CJ was of Swiss origin and the guy he bought it from had imported it, and also did the paint job. But that was in '96. Is ther anything known wat kind of Jeeps the Swiss bought in '68?

If the seats are OD, I'd wonder if the body didn't match. Welcome from Boston!

You're kidding right, why do you think that Hitler never tried to invade Switzerland. If the history channel is right , by law all Swiss households must have a rifle and ammo, all 20 year old males must serve a period of time in the military and the Swiss army has an extensive network of tunnels and implacements thru out the Alps to defend there borders.

Yea I am kidding. I don't think Hitler had much need for an invasion though. They were to much of asset as a banker to the Nazis.

Thought you were but never sure. I think he was also scared of an invasion and thought of his military cutoff and locked inside a mountain pass starving and freezing to death during the winter.

This weekend I'm gonna take off the original VIN-plates to see what color is underneath. Maybe that will help......
