Looks to me like the 420 has a whomping big bulge on the passenger side that would interfere with the shifter on an 18 or 20 if it were snugged up to the 420 case. The bulge is probably why it's shorter than the 465 - gotta put the gears somewhere. Check the pictures on the Novak site.

The T-98 in my flatty wasn't too bad at all on the floor. I did have to modufy my shifter cover, but that was about it.

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for the opinions, they are much appreciated. You helped me decide that I will definitely put the overdrive in, and on the flip side of the coin, I think I will also skip the low transfer case gears, and go ahead with the t-98 conversion instead. I happen to have almost all the parts to do it in the garage anyway. Despite the fact the the poor 2A may end up with a couple extra holes in the floor, I will come away with a vehicle that will give me the best of both worlds which would be to have a comfortable vehicle on the road as well as on the trail. If anyone's interested, I will keep you guys posted on the conversion, as I plan to keep it as clean as possible and still keep the twin stick pto, the pto winch and the governor and all the neat stock stuff operational. It'll be challenging but I will see if I can make it work and look good without permanantly altering the jeep too much. I had some thoughts about actually reducing the size of the t-98 transmission case, much the same way as we have shaved dana 60 and 44 axles in the past for rockcrawling. Perhaps I can make the t-98 a little less intrusive under the little willys...

Ok here is a thought. If you are afraid of cutting up your tranny tunnel why not make another one out of sheet metal. I am not sure if the 2a's comes out like a 5s though.
