    Hi all,
Does anyone have a picture of the backup light switch where it is attached to the tranny?
    Thanks so much,
    Joel

You want a picture of the switch or the switch in situ? Here's the first:

On the transmission, the shift pattern looks like an H - look at the bottom right leg of the H on the top cover (from above).

Hey, Tim... do you know what kind of connectors are used to wire that into the harness? I have the switch in my tranny but am looking at plain wires with the new harness.

It's a flat plastic connector with slots to take the the 'caps' of the posts. Pushes on from the side. I've read here that the "Help" sections at your FLAPS has them.

is FLAPS "favorite local auto parts store," or is it a chain? Because I can check the HELP section at Pep Boys and Bennet, but if it is a specific chain, I am in trouble... (but I can't see you using all caps for a chain, I hope lol).

The good news is that I have the horn switch wire (leaving it alone, I am not putting the air horn in yet), the backup switch wire (I am going to try some of the connectors I have here and, if that doesn't work, go looking for HELP), and the brake switch wire (I can't use the original brake switch because of the differences between the old rod and the booster's rod, so I am going to make a bracket for a GM style switch tonight) left to do in the cab, then I can mount the dash back up and bleed the brakes. I still have to do a little ignition wiring, mainly rearranging, and test that stuff... then I will be done. Really done. I can drive it done.

You ever think that maybe I am too stupid to wire my own truck?

    Thanks, Sparky!

One more question... my new wiring harness has one wire for the backup light and surprise! there are two terminals. Do I need to ground one of the terminals or is something off?

Don't remove a terminal! You need 12+ to power it on one side and the other to go to your reverse lights. Which one is there? The one going to the lights?

The switch is just a switch - is either on (closed) or off (open). There are two ways it could be used - either it switches ground or it switches power. If it switches ground ('downhill' side of the light), then one terminal will be powered, coming from the light, and one will go to ground. If it switches power (uphill side), again one terminal will be powered and the other will go to the light. Then the light will be connected to ground.

No, the one that is included in the harness is the one that runs to the lights. I can supply 12 volts from the fuse panel

I literally cut 2/3rds of the harness because my jeep doesn't have things like a nuetral safety switch, cruise control, power windows, a power top, a dome light, and so on

If I can get the connectors on, great. If not, I'm off to pep boys!

In that case, I'll get the connectors and dummy it up once I get the batteries hooked back up.

Tim, you realize you've halfway built this wiring system with the things you've told me?
