any input on what sort of carb top/"hat" would work good for building a snorkel setup?

My 360 came with an aftermarket chrome "open" type of air cleaner, but i'd much rather build a snorkel if i can something that would mount to the carb to build off of

I thought about it for my truck and did a little searching. Once you make the right-angle turn from the top of the carb, you need to go to a box with an air filter. I would use a flat rectangular filter. You then go out from under the hood, and along the windshield pillar to your intake.

You may be able to adapt a commercial snorkel kit, but you probably want to build it yourself. You can buy the carburetor fitting and snorkel top from a big truck supply, but they are expensive. If I did it, I would fab the parts myself. It'd be a lot of work for no gain if you did not expect to encounter really deep water, above the carb top.

Also, the long restrictive intake path can't help performance.

Bear in mind the military (M38A1) snorkel system included the crankcase, carb, master cylinder, alternator, distributor, differentials, fuel tank, and etc, etc. Of course the ignition was waterproof too, as were all harness connections.

Every major component was sealed, and vented via the Carb intake horn, when the "fording" control was pulled. An exhaust extension was used also.

Even then, it was advised to drain and change all fluids (knuckles, trans, etc) after any immersion.

A snorkel set-up is more than a long tube. Wicked cool though...

Anybody remember the old 60's TV commercial showing a scuba diver driving a Jeep across the bottom of the ocean, as I recall it?
