most states offer a Bonded title Option if after a title search & no prior owners turns up. Does your state's DMV do title searches for prior owner using VIN or prior owners name. If no active title can be found a Bonded title should be available. you shouldnt need to hire an atty, Before you Do.... I would have someone with a more liberal state get your title in their state and then transfer it to you.
In Iowa the above steps are all that are taken to obtain a Bonded title. Most bonded titles cost a minimum of $100-$150.00.
My jeeps are titled but I just recently needed a title for a 1959 Ford Escort(ENFO), they ran a search for any prior owners and NONE were found.
after the state search with no information found, they sent me the paperwork to be able to obtain a Bond from any Ins carrier to obtain title. I have purchased both Jeep W/title & just tag & title from out of state and neither one caused me any problems obtaining currant title.
